Join us for an enlightening discussion moderated by Derek Cain, Equity & Inclusion Manager at UNC Health, featuring Sertrice (Grice) Shipley, CEO & owner of Plan To Action, and Dominique Grimes-Medlin, HR and DEI consultant for The Equity Paradigm and Performentor, where they will discuss the evolving landscape of DEI initiatives that is facing challenges and rollbacks, serving as a crucial conversation on advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Meet Our Panel
Derek Cain, Equity & Inclusion Manager at UNC Health
A North Carolina native, Derek has spent most of his professional career in the healthcare industry, focusing on creating welcoming and inclusive environments. He holds a Bachelor's in Information Systems from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an MBA with a Health Care Management certificate from East Carolina University. Additionally, he has earned a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from the University of South Florida. Derek is a member of the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Raleigh program, volunteers at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, and serves as Treasurer of the Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Clinical Operations Appreciation Award and the Phi Lambda W. H. Peace Service Award.
Sertrice (Grice) Shipley, CEO & Owner of Plan To Action
Before leading Plan To Action, Sertrice significantly contributed as Co-Owner & Chief Consulting Officer of Mattingly Solutions, delivering DEI solutions to clients like NAWBO, Koppers, and American Humane. She is also dedicated to community service, holding positions such as Chair of the board for Blacks in I/O, and serving on the boards of the Lucy Daniels Center and GoBe Kids. Sertrice actively participates in national organizations like the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. As a respected DEI thought leader and public speaker, she has been invited to speak at events such as the Society for Human Resource Management and various Chamber events. Residing in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband Abraham and their dog Winston, Sertrice continues her mission through Plan To Action, fostering inclusive workplace cultures and driving meaningful DEI change.
Dominique Grimes-Medlin, HR and DEI Consultant for The Equity Paradigm and Performentor
As a multi-racial, LGBTQIA+ professional, he uses his expertise to uplift marginalized groups and address DEIB issues, currently partnering with Performentor and The Equity Paradigm. Dom's cross-industry experience spans manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and more, allowing him to provide tailored solutions that ensure diverse and equitable hiring practices. He launched a statewide initiative in North Carolina to support justice-involved individuals and serves on non-profit boards, including as Vice-Chair for StepUp Durham, where he raised significant funds for their Impact event. Holding a Bachelor's in Business Management, a Master's from Western Carolina University, and DEI certifications, Dom is a SHRM Certified Professional. Originally from Indianapolis, Dom is known for his empathy, fashionable 90 hats, love of red wine, and dedication to fostering inclusive environments. He enjoys hosting DEIB events and spending time with his husband, John, and their two dogs.
