Event Description:

Inspiring Philanthropy

Philanthropy is a critical part of society which focuses on any social practice that furthers the greater good or fosters healthy, harmonious communities.  Furthermore, it is crucial to the health, safety and well-being of every member of society.  Many individuals participate in philanthropic activities, such as various forms of charitable giving to local nonprofits, but many companies have robust Corporate Philanthropy platforms as well.

Join us to hear a robust panel discussion on the important role philanthropy plays in the ecosystem of our communities and how it can inspire us all to make a difference.  Panelists include:
  • Rev. Dr. Rose Cornelious, Development Director, Dorcas Ministries
  • Leslie Covington, Executive Director, The Carying Place
  • Carla Mantilla, Global Markets Controls Officer supporting GM Operations Globally, Credit Suisse
  • Katie Weeks, Senior Advisor, Armstrong McGuire and President of Wake County Community Foundation
  • Margaret Worten, VP Client Development, Southport Graphics, LLC
Nonprofit Highlight - The Carying Place

Our nonprofit highlight for the November Luncheon will be The Carying Place.  The Carying Place teaches homeless, working families with children, life skills for attaining independent living while providing short-term housing and support services to address their individual needs.  Over a 16-week period, families paired with a volunteer team of Support Partners that provide weekly guidance in managing personal finances, setting attainable goals, seeking permanent affordable housing and maintaining their employment.  Since their inception, they have served over 400 families and currently the program supports 7 families at a time.  Families live in apartments leased by The Carying Place in an environment similar to permanent housing except rent and utilities are paid by The Carying Place.
